BD Diesel
This performance-built transmission is engineered to handle up to 300% more power and torque than stock while dramatically increasing drivetrain durability. It features all-new bushings, a redesigned valve body, revised oil circuits, and a fully rollerized geartrain to reduce friction and improve reliability.
Stock thrust washers are replaced with roller Torrington bearings to protect governor solenoids, while a drilled intermediate shaft and modified manual valve ensure proper lubrication in all gear positions. 47RE units are upgraded with stronger 48RE components, including new input shafts, hub assemblies, and a billet input shaft to absorb shock from rapid throttle and high-horsepower applications.
Clutch capacity is increased with heavy-duty clutches offering up to 25% more friction material, machined pressure plates and pistons, a high-temperature Raybestos band, and billet band and accumulator components. Up to 80% higher clutch apply pressure delivers firm, consistent shifts at lower RPM and lighter throttle input, eliminating shuttle shifting. An upgraded governor pressure transducer and solenoid, along with a cooler line case saver, further enhance reliability.
Cooling and strength are improved with a BD rigid aluminum heavy-duty transmission pan, which adds 1 quart of fluid capacity, reduces case flex and internal leakage, features cooling fins, and includes a magnetic drain plug.
Clutch counts include Forward (5), Direct (5), Overdrive (6), and Overdrive Direct (10), making this transmission a proven solution for high-power diesel applications.
